THE BOLD BRIGADE
A collective to celebrate the Inclusive Power of Arts.

PRESENTS

Break the silence: Let's talk about AIDS

Every year in the world, a large number of people are newly diagnosed with HIV. According to the sources  one in five does not know he or she is infected. To reach those unaware of their HIV infection, Painter Babu Rishabh and Swapnil Saundarya has taken the initiative to encourage all of us to learn about HIV prevention, testing and treatment through visual art under  the first series of THE BOLD BRIGADE, a collective to celebrate the Inclusive Power of Arts.

Specifically, Break the silence: Let's talk about AIDS encourages everyone to

Get the facts – Learn the basics of HIV transmission and prevention.

Get tested – It is recommended that every adult and adolescent get tested at least once in his or her lifetime, and those at increased risk (for example, men who have sex with men, and individuals with new or multiple sexual partners) get tested at least once a year.

Get involved – Encourage friends and loved ones to get tested and speak out against the stigma and complacency that help fuel the spread of HIV.

QUICK FACTS ||

AIDS- ‘Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome’
Caused by

HIV- ‘Human Immunodefficiency Virus'

As per the name it Weakens immunity to that extent where your running nose can keep running for months!

AIDS patients are open culture plates for all kinds of infections i.e. they can haurber all kinds of bacteria, viruses and fungi.

ROUTE OF TRANSMISSION OF HIV :

# unprotected sexual intercourse: Anal, vaginal or oral sex. Most common in homosexuals, prostitutes, sex workers.

#By blood and blood products: blood transfusions without prior screening.

#Injections & Injuries: sharing needles in drug abusers. Injections with unsterile syringes and needles. Needle-prick injuries in healthcare workers.

# Tissue and organs donation: donation of semen, cornea, bone marrow, kidney by HIV infected person.

#Mother to baby: transplacental i.e. within the womb or at the time of delivery or after birth by breastfeeding.

HIV IS NOT TRANSMITTED BY!!!

social and domestic contact.

Shaking hands, hugging, putting cheeks together or dry kissing do not transmit HIV.

‘So, Hate the disease, not the diseased!!’

Bite of mosquitoes, bed bugs or any blood sucking insects do not transmit disease.

There is no confirmed case of transmission through saliva but virus may be present in saliva of infected person.

urine and sweat don't transmit HIV.

Bathrooms and toilet seats of HIV patients are not responsible for transmission.

sneezing and coughing also don't transmit the virus.

HIV virus is present in blood, breast milk, vaginal secretions, cervical secretions, tears, saliva, semen of infected person. Keep yourself away from these body fluids of infected person.

SYMPTOMS OF AIDS:

Acute HIV infection: Within 3 to 6 weeks of infection, person experience low grade fever, malaise, headache, lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes) with rash.

asymptomatic stage: person is symptoms free but small viral load is present.

This is phase of clinical latency which means virus can remain inactive upto 10 to 15 years without causing any illness.

‘Long term survivors’ or ‘long term nonprogressors’ are those who do not develop AIDS upto 10 years of infection. But they can transmit the virus.

AIDS related complex: typical symptoms are
fatigue, Diarrhoea, marked weight loss(Diarrhoea and dwindling), enlarged spleen.

Opportunistic infections like esophageal candidiasis, herpes zoster infections, typhoid, tuberculosis can occur.

Untreated AIDS : This is the end stage disease.

Respiratory system( lungs , trachea etc), central nervous system ( brain, spinal cord), gastrointestinal system (stomach, intestine etc) are involved.

AIDS is also associated with some cancers like kaposi's sarcoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma.

As HIV can affect brain, it causes injury to brain leading to the condition called Dementia which means loss of memory!

TREATMENT OF AIDS:

THERE IS NO PERMANENT CURE FOR AIDS!

If the person is infected by needle prick injuries or any surgical wound he or she should be given Anti Retroviral therapy within 72hrs of exposure.

What to do if any needle prick injury occurs while injecting drug or recapping the used needle in HIV infected patients???

1st and foremost Don't panic!

Immediately put your finger below the running tap water.

wash the finger keeping your nail vertically downwards.

don't squeeze your finger and never put it into your mouth.

Immediately check for your blood tests.

Start the ART (Anti Retroviral Therapy) within 72hrs of exposure if blood tests are positive for HIV.

PREVENTION OF AIDS:

▪︎ Proper counselling and health education regarding the spread of the disease and symptoms.
▪︎ clear the myths and misconceptions of AIDS.
▪︎ protected sexual intercourse. Condoms are cheaper than AIDS, isn't it!!
▪︎know the HIV status of your sexual partner.
▪︎ Be aware of blood and blood products.
▪︎ always use a sterile needle.

We celebrate World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, which is  an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. This is a very important day to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic and reflect on both where we have made achievements in battling the epidemic and where we really need to persevere to do better.

The world has changed. The global response to HIV must change too. December 1st has traditionally been World AIDS Day - but now onwards , we urge the global community to reclaim December the 1st as World HIV Day.
We do this, because as we enter the next phase of the global HIV response, we cannot let fear and discrimination drive us backwards.

We must reaffirm and redouble our efforts to end one of the greatest health challenges of our generation.

And, we have reason for great optimism: Dramatic advances in biomedical and behavioral sciences have given us the tools to prevent HIV-related deaths and dramatically reduce new HIV infections.

We defeat HIV when we provide access to treatment for all people living with HIV,
HIV testing and comprehensive prevention strategies that include PrEP and condom availability, and harm reduction strategies for people who inject drugs that include needle exchange and opiate substitution therapy. We defeat HIV when these solutions are delivered by genuinely respecting the rights and dignity of all people living with and affected by HIV.

This epidemic has never been just about a virus. We defeat HIV when we embrace social justice and the fundamental human dignity and leadership of affected populations around the globe.

If we choose, we can revert to persecution, blame and despair, jettisoning proven science, dismantling the progress of the last thirty- five years, and driving up new infections and deaths.

But, if we choose, we can end HIV by prioritizing resources for key populations and meet the challenge of dismantling systems that create poverty, mass incarceration, and harness access to full access to health care and education, and create new structures that support inclusion and diversity.

AIDS was our past, HIV is our present and our future can be a world where we ended a virus, by making an unprecedented sustained global investment in combining science with respect for the human rights of all. Sp, let us commit to creating a World Without HIV.

This year we must strive for: "Getting to zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths."

– Rishabh Shukla

2019, was a great year. We have started our 01 year Digital Campaign 'FORGET ME NOT: Go Achromatic for a cause' with the motive to Say No to VAWGC (Violence against Women, Girls & Children) under the auspices of Swapnil Saundarya & Painter Babu Rishabh............

This one year #digital #campaign was started in Januray 2019 with the mission to win the battle against social evils in the form of VAWGC prevailing in our society. We combined #technology, #socialmedia, the #arts, #journalism, religion, #culture, #business and #activism in a bid to highlight the many ways in which violence devastates women, girls and children through this digital campaign. This campaign has popularized the black and white colours as a symbol of personal commitment to the eradication of violence against women, girls and children.

The black and white colour dress or ribbon symbolises the commitment of the wearer to “never commit or condone violence against the vulnerable, and to speak out about violence where they see it”.

We have also introduced the concepts called Participatory communication and action, Art Activism and Protest Art through this campaign. Participatory communication has been defined as “a dynamic, interactional, and transformative process of dialogue between people, groups, and institutions that enables people, both individually and collectively, to realize their full potential and be engaged in their own welfare.”

Art Activism is a dynamic practice combining the creative power of the arts to move us emotionally with the strategic planning of activism necessary to bring about social change. And Protest art acts as an important tool to form social consciousness, create networks, operate accessibly, and be cost-effective. Social movements produce such works as the signs, banners, posters, and other printed materials used to convey a particular cause or message.

We tried our level best to change the mindset of the people up to some extent and made many women and girls realize that it is not their destiny to tolerate all sorts of exploitation, harassment and discriminations. There is an urgent need to create an environment conducive and motivating to their social, economical and political empowerment. We believe that all women, girls and children have the right to be free from physical, sexual and psychological violence. Violence against women, girls and children is never justifiable and can be prevented.

The campaign drew to its closure in December 2019. Every ending is always a new beginning. When something ends, something new begins and a new beginning is always a new opportunity. Keeping this fact in mind, we take great pride to announce 'The Bold Brigade’, a collective to celebrate the Inclusive Power of Arts.

Editor’s  Note  ::

We are extremely proud on  the completion of successful and glorious six years of India's first  lifestyle ezine avaiable in Hindi  Swapnil Saundarya ezine .

But who are we? Who are the people working behind the scenes to make Swapnil Saundarya Ezine truly beautiful & inspiring ? Today we’d like to publish something rather different. Being chummy as we are, we’d like to give you a peek behind the scenes — a little insight into how we work, who we are, where we live and where we come from. It will be quite a ride, so get yourself a beverage, make yourself comfortable and set a few minutes aside.

How We Work And Tinker: Slow Is Good Link

So far, you have seen only one side of our little publication. Articles get published, and you, dear reader, take care of the rest: promoting the article throughout your social channels and sharing it with colleagues offline. Sometimes an article instigates new discussions on and beyond Swapnil Saundarya Ezine , while sometimes one doesn’t quite manage to spark the conversation we had anticipated. But in either case, at that very moment when the article gets published, we are absolutely confident that it is delivering value to you.

All of Swapnil Saundarya Ezine 's articles have to have a certain… signature, a certain something that justifies their reason for existing online. That “something” has to pass the judgement of our editorial team, which never compromises its strongly held values. However, finding that signature isn’t easy. In fact, the route that an article has to take until that “Publish” button gets clicked is usually quite long. So how exactly does it work? We’re glad you asked.

THE EDITORIAL PROCESS

Five years ago we established our “Publishing Policy,” a sacred set of editorial principles that we adhere to for every single article published on Swapnil Saundarya Ezine . We always protect your interests and ensure that the content published always merits your attention. We never publish any sponsored articles or hidden advertisements. We don’t participate in affiliate marketing. Our lovely sponsors have no influence on our content whatsoever.

These rules help us guarantee a fertile environment in which useful, high-quality articles can be born. Our authors are usually quite surprised by the attention that every single draft gets. We don’t set any deadlines for our authors, and we never push them to deliver an article by a particular date. We never shy away from sending critical or challenging feedback, and we take time to do proper research and quality control to ensure that an article delivers the value that we strive for.

That’s the reason why articles usually take time — and the process in general is slow and time-consuming. Most articles go through three to four rounds of revisions . Being slow enables us to focus and tinker — to work on the little details that make the article feel right.

WORKING WITH AUTHORS

Sure, some authors don’t like the process — justifiably so. We are certainly not always a pleasure to work with, but we don’t have to be — what we do have to be is confident that we can stand behind every single article published in the magazine. And we don’t try to hunt down as many articles or as many authors as possible. In fact, we always publish the most valuable articles first — even if other articles have been waiting in the queue for months. Now, if that doesn’t make an author angry, what would?

Other authors feel grateful that we help them develop their ideas and techniques as the article progresses. We always do our best to take our authors out of their comfort zone; to challenge them, to make them think differently about their craft and their process. We don’t make it easy: we question the status quo and we obsess over all of the little details such as image captions and image credits and sources and front page images and links to related resources. Every single bit of it takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. We are not perfectionists, but we do try to make sure that everything is as it should be.

OUR  TOOLS

How do we manage it all? Well, it’s not as difficult as it sounds. We don’t use any sophisticated tools; we prefer to work with simple tools. For every article, we follow our custom editorial guide, which was thoroughly developed for the magazine as well as for our eBooks and printed books. We have developed a style and tone guide as well, which clearly states what is important to us, what our values and principles are, and what we pay attention to in terms of copywriting, customer service, code and visual design. And we tend to use quite a few checklists as well.

Occasionally we’ll take an hour or two on the weekend to handle the most important tasks and to make sure that our authors, customers and readers don’t have to wait too long for a reply.

We have developed custom tools to make it easier for us to write, coordinate, edit and proofread but we follow a thorough editorial procedure here as well. The magazine runs on Issuu, Blogspot, WordPress & Tumblr .

Notes are often taken with iA Writer, and to-do notes are managed in simple plain-text to-do files. Images and screenshots are created using InstantShot. Design sketches often happen on paper or in the browser. Most of us use Chrome and Firefox as our primary browsers.

We try to avoid distractions. Choosing an office space where avoiding distractions is easy was, therefore, the right decision for our small enterprise.

While a major part of our work requires being available online, over the years we’ve learned to appreciate the distinct appeal of being offline. A lot of planning, editing and design work is deliberately done offline — in sketchbooks with pencils, with sticky notes and doodles, sometimes with large headphones on. Especially when writing feedback for articles and discussing ideas, finding a calm area is often helpful. In fact, we don’t have fixed working hours.... we care that things get done, and we care that things get done properly. Sometimes they are done on the go, in the work place or in a coffee shop.

As we begin volume  6th of Swapnil Saundarya ezine, my prayer is that we continue to  grow and find the space within ourselves to know, beyond all doubt, that there is nothing more that we need to do in order to be complete. All we need is a willingness to allow ourselves to feel good and to be at peace in the present moment. All we need is gratitude for all that we have, and all that we have had the pleasure to be and to experience. That is the starting point from which all other things will flow into our existence.

Be a part of Swapnil Saundarya ezine and Make your Life just like your Dream World !

With love,
Rishabh
